17 January 2010

Helen solved the green side of a Rubik's cube by herself. You can tell she's excited about it from her big smile.

Thursday is a minor holiday around here-- Garbage Day! Gibson and Helen run between the front and back of the house as they watch the garbage trucks circle the neighborhood collecting trash. This Thursday was the 3 truck bonanza, the regular garbage truck, the recycling truck and the bonus glass recycling truck.

Brandan is making good progress on the beds. He's finished all the structural elements and is working on the trim. The kids love to help. In the photo, Abe is clamping the trim around a window so Brandan can nail it in place.

Friday night we realized that Gibson was sleeping in his crib for the last time. So many times we note the firsts (first night in the crib, first time sleeping through the night), but the last milestones can slip by without notice. Gibson didn't even notice the flash go off as we took his photo. Brandan built this crib 12 years ago when Sophie was born and all our kids have used it. It's held up remarkably well.

While we were taking Gibson's photo, we noticed Sophie reading in bed. Sophie is such a night owl. Becky can't remember the last time Sophie was asleep before her.

It's almost not fair to post this photo. We know some of you have suffered cold snaps and inversions and all sorts of winter nastiness. However, we're having an unusually mild January. Here's Abe riding his bike in T-shirt and shorts on Saturday. We're really enjoying the weather.

You're right Becky it is not fair to post that picture. We are dying for a storm to clear the air here! Sweet to recognize the milestone--you're right, sometimes we don't notice and many times we don't know it is the last time.

Wow, we have more than a foot of snow, with drifts a high as 3 1/2 feet. Enjoy your mild January, I will live vicariously. It is good to note the lasts. Enjoying each event helps to not miss them so much when they are past. Good Job Helen! What is Sophie reading?

You will post pictures of the bunk beds when they are done right? This week has been wonderfully mild for January. We have loved sending the kids outside to play.

I am of course jealous of your weather. It is going to be a "warm" 46 degrees here today- hooray! The bunk beds are looking great. I love seeing pictures of your kids. Are you guys heading our way again any time soon?

Brandan is such an impressive builder. What a great and rewarding talent to have. I didn't know he had another project underhand - I am interested to see the finished pictures! Those few weeks of super cold scared me, but I am glad we are back to a more mild winter. Almost too mild...
