25 April 2010

We're anxiously awaiting the opening of Sophie's school play Alice in Wonderland this Thursday. The cast and crew are working hard to get ready. With much appreciated help from a friend, Becky sewed some extra-large pants for Sophie (Tweedle Dum) and Tweedle Dee. Tweedle Dee's mom bought shirts and socks for the girls. We can't wait to see the girls side by side, all plumped out with pillows.

Some, probably hundreds, of grubs were treating our lawn like their own personal salad bar. Our lawn really looks terrible. We broke down and got super toxic poison to kill them, kept the kids off the lawn for a week and are reseeding the bare patches. It's too depressing to take a photo of the dead lawn, so in the foreground are Helen and Gibson playing store. They're using leaves as currency.

More yard woes-- this is our Asian pear tree. Its blossoms have come and gone and it is leafing in beautifully. However ...

... this is our Red Bartlett pear tree. It shows no signs of spring activity.

To end on a good note, this is a paper Abe made at school this week. It describes Super Turtle and the pictures show the superhero rescuing a baby kitten from a pit and returning it to its mom. We love Super Turtle's extensive powers, especially his biceps.

Our lawn was attacked by those crumby grubs too...and crab grass, and fairy rings. Who knew lawns were so much work?
I like Abe's Super Turtle drawing, with the list of his abilities. It looks like an advertisement to have Super Turtle come save your kitty today.
Those Dweedle Dee pants look fantastic. Please post pictures when they are filled with pillows.
By the way, Sophie's haircut looks very cute.

I love the arrival of spring, but I panic over the yard work. I have a feeling from past posts on your garden that you're much more skilled at how to solve these dilemmas than we are! Good luck to Sophie in the play! It sounds like so much fun.

I can't wait to see the pictures of Sophie's play. Love the Super Turtle--Perhaps he can find a cure for your yard. The Asian Pear may need a small amount of epson salt and vinegar about 2 feet out from the trunk of the tree. (really small amount) Call me if you have questions. Had that problem with one of our trees. An oldtimer gave us the tip.
