We planted our vegetable garden Monday night. This is the latest we've ever planted our tomatoes, but with the cool weather, it seemed kinder to leave the plants in their plastic nursery containers on the back porch. Each of the kids planted one of the raised beds in our garden. The photo shows Gibson planting a tomato plant. Becky may or may not have snuck an eggplant into the garden. You'll know if you see her eating a roasted eggplant sandwich this fall.

How fun that each kid gets to plant a planter box. Great idea with the skewers.
I love all of the toys and opportunities you provide for your kids to explore and learn.
We have a pesky neighborhood cat that uses our bark mulch as his personal toilet. I don't think skewers would work for that, so I may have to find some rat poisoning!! Just kidding (maybe)!
Neighborhood animals can be a drag. We have dogs near us with irresponsible owners, and we often find all sorts of "fun" things left in our yard. Not so many cats around though, thank goodness. For the most part our new fence will remedy the dog issue. I hope your garden is better off this year. We are all very excited to see you in a couple weeks.
I love seeing the beginning of a new garden - it always makes me think of spring as well as the upcoming summer. It's fun to see all the different ideas for planting that the kids come up with. Hope the eggplant turns out. :) Also, good luck with the butterfly farm to Abe!
Those darn cats! We're trying a squarefoot garden for the first time this summer. We don't have much of an issue with cats, but Drue did built a structure over our garden boxes allowing them to be covered with bird netting so that we can keep out the deer moose, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and fox that was in our backyard last week.
We planted seeds in our garden this year. I didn't think about the neighborhood cats and now I'm nervous! Thanks for the article recommendation!
