7 August 2011

It's been a Darwinian summer for our yard-- that is to say survival of the fittest. We spent some time this week catching up on some neglected chores. The thyme on our patio had overgrown several pavers and Helen helped cut it back.

We found a pumpkin vine growing in the gravel between our garbage cans and the air conditioner. It's hard to believe anything is growing here-- there's no water and little sun. It reminded us of the book Too Many Pumpkins where a woman accidently plants hundreds of pumpkins.

Brandan took the kids to a car show. Gibson liked this custom motorcycle.

Sofi spent 3 days at girls' camp this week. Helen planned a surprise tea party for her return. Helen made fancy place mats and planned the menu. We ate the food with colored toothpicks. Dressing up for the tea party was optional.
Helen and Sofi extend their pinkies as they sip their Italian sodas. Sofi had a great time at girls' camp. Her favorite activities were a food fight and extra time for boating and swimming.

I love the pumpkin book. We had a great time reading it. It kind of freaked Kamilah out a little but then she really enjoyed it about the third time I read it. Hope all is well, Magui

What an adorable little tea party, costumes and Italian sodas? Next time don't forget to invite me :).
It sounds like everyone had such a great time at girls camp. I am wondering how to get in on that one as well next year :).

Helen is so sweet! I love that Brandan dressed up too. I guess those air conditioner units leak more water than we realize. Ours is on cement, and the cement is discolored in that area.

Hey Lizzy was at Girls' camp too and boy did we miss her. We had a volunteer pumpkin this summer too. It was ripe on the 4th of July. We cooked it up and I thought of the too many pumpkins book too. And the time we cooked that pumpkin we found in the dorms.
