4 March 2012

We had our first snowstorm of the season on Wednesday.  We know some of you are tired of snow and ready for Spring, but the snow was a welcome treat for us.

Normally our school district would cancel school for this amount of snow, but it didn't start snowing in earnest until 6 am, and the district officials had to make their decision before then.  School did start 2 hours late which gave the kids some time to play in the snow before heading to school.  The snow had mostly melted before they got home.

Abe made a tiny snowman while waiting for the bus.

Becky doesn't put batteries in toys or replace the batteries in toys that come with batteries installed because she doesn't like the noise and thinks it's a waste of money.  Gib is pretty good with a screwdriver now and was pretty pleased with himself for putting batteries in his wrecking crane by himself.

We don't have any celebrations or traditions for Leap Day, but a day that only comes around every 4 years screams for recognition.  Becky hurried to put together some silly and serious questions.  We each answered the questions and sealed the responses up in an envelope to be opened on Leap Day in 2016.  Four years is a lifetime in kid years-- each of the kids will be in an entirely different stage in 2016.  It was fun imagining what they'll be doing.

Here's a photo of the ever helpful Helen cooking onions for dinner on Saturday.

That's a great leap year idea. I hope I remember to try that in four years.

I feel the same way about batteries. One time, I just cut the speaker wire from a fishing game. They could still fish, but I didn't have to listen to the music. Gibson is very resourceful!
