30 October 2016

At scouts this week the scouts did some old fashioned lashing.  In this photo, Camden and Abe are doing a square lashing.

The boys also practiced folding the American flag with this giant flag.

Here's another view of the flag.

Gibson's den created a carnival for pack meeting this month.  Each scout created a game for the night.  Gibson made a marble race.

Helen invited some friends over for a movie night.  Gibson invited one friend for company.  Abe was on a campout with the scouts.  The kids carved pumpkins before they watched "Frankenweenie," a creepy Tim Burton film.

Becky scooped out the pumpkin guts earlier in the day to cut down on the mess Friday night.

Here's the other side of the room.

Clara used her pumpkin as a hand puppet.

From the left are Lily, Sophie, Collin, Gibson, Lucy, Helen and Clara.

For this photo the kids tried to make the same face as their jack-o-lanterns.

Our kids wore their Halloween costumes to our ward's trunk or treat on Saturday.  Here's Gravity Gibson.

Helen made a majestic pirate captain.

Abe made his own costume for the night: a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owner.

Uh oh!  Something's burning!

 Ouch!
Abe did his own simulated burn makeup.  It was realistic enough to convince a few people he had actually gotten burned (yet somehow he was well enough to go trick-or-treating!)

Becky and Brandan went to the annual couples' Halloween party in our neighborhood.  Brandan watched the movie "Ip Man 3" on the plane ride home from Australia and loved the character Ip Man.  Historically, Ip Man was a real person who trained Bruce Lee.  The movie is fictional and focuses on Ip Man's self control, love of family and mad kung fu skills.  Becky went as Mrs. Ip Man.  Although since she hasn't seen the movie, she might look more like Ip Man's culturally insensitive American girlfriend or Ip Man's auntie from the Chinese countryside.

Final photo: our kids' jack-o-lanterns on the front porch.  Abe carved his on Thursday.  We put battery operated lights from the Dollar Tree (2 for $1) in the pumpkins and the kids are leaving the candles on to see if they stay lit for the 120 hours advertised on the package.
