We got our first emails from Sofi this week! We won't repeat all her news here, but we love this photo she took of her MTC name tag with the Provo temple, the roses and the Wasatch mountains in the background. You can read more at Sofi's mission blog: hulljiemei.blogspot.com. "Hulljiemei" means Sister Hull in Chinese.
Gibson went to Cub Scout day camp this week. Every year the scouts participate in a egg drop. They build a container that will protect an egg from breaking when dropped about 40 feet from the ground. Gib created a successful design out of foam and shopping bags. He tapped several layers of foam around the egg and made 4 parachutes for the egg out of the shopping bags.
He dropped the egg two times at camp and the egg survived both falls. His packaging was light and the parachutes created enough drag that the egg landed gently. He could have dropped the package all day without hurting the egg.
Helen left Wednesday morning for girls' camp. This was her first year to go and she had a wonderful time. Her leaders in the photo are Tiffany, Cindy, Callie and Misty. The front row of girls are Helen, Emma, Jennah, Annie and Georja. The back row is Mia, Brooke, McKenzie and Savannah.
One of Helen's leaders sent us this photo of Helen during the lip sync challenge. It's hard to recognize her in her hat and sunglasses. Helen is the girl in front with a green t-shirt. Notice the lovely stage the girls are performing on.
This is the second summer we've had a small hammock city in our backyard, but neither Brandan or Becky had tried a hammock out before this week. They are very comfortable. We got in one to read and ended up taking a nap!
Abe got home from China today! We left church a little early so we could pick him up at the airport.
Abe will post some photos and write about his trip later this week. He brought home a large assortment of Oreos that are not available in the US. The most unusual variety is green tea flavored.
He downloaded a google translate app on his iPad that uses the camera on the iPad to scan the Chinese characters and translates them. The English translation even appears in the same font and color as the Chinese. Abe found this app very useful to check the ingredients of food before he ate it. We were happy that he went the whole trip without eating anything he was allergic to!
