2 September 2018

We got a puzzle card in the mail from Sofi this week.  We love her Chinese return address and the pretty stamps.

We put the puzzle together to read the note on the back.  This photo also shows the cute washi tape she used to decorate the envelope.  Here's a link to Daniel 12:3.

The missionaries in our ward visited us and asked us to commit to live our ward mission goals.  Helen summarized the goals and made this pretty sign.  We hung the sign on our refrigerator to remind us what we committed to do.

On Wednesday Becky took the 11 year old scouts to the police station.  An officer gave a presentation on the health effects of alcohol, tobacco and marijuana.  Hint: not good.  The boys paid close attention.  From the left are Ethan, Kason, Ben, Diego and Gibson.

What in the world is this?  First we must explain a bit of backstory.  Abe's soccer schedule depends largely on the air quality index.  They would prefer to practice and play games outside, but they are only allowed to be outside if the air quality index is lower than 100.  For the past 6 weeks, most days have exceeded that.  Abe's team has spent a lot of time conditioning inside the school gym.  However, lower temperatures and high atmospheric winds have helped the air clear out a few days this week.  We were all looking forward to a local game on Wednesday.  Unfortunately, the winds changed and started filling our valley with smoke again.  The coaches decided to move the game an hour away where the air was still clear.  Abe needed to go straight from his piano lesson to catch the team bus.  He wanted to charge his iPad during the 30 minute car ride so he could listen to music and play games on the bus ride.  The radio in our van has a USB port, but Abe only had a very short charging cord.  He rigged up a charging station by pulling out the cupholder, resting Becky's purse on it and jamming his slide against the radio.  His creation made Becky laugh so she took a photo.

After three years at a very small magnet school, Gibson is starting middle school at a large school of about 900 students.  He is unsure about many things, but one thing he is confidant about is his locker!  Gib is a whiz at combination locks.  School starts next week.
