Pilot Rock is a prominent landmark near the California border.  There's a shortish hike to the top which we've talked about hiking many times.

This Wednesday we finally hiked it.  The first part of the hike was through beautiful trees.  The Pilot Rock trail crosses the Pacific Crest Trail.

The last few hundred feet of the hike are a scramble up basalt rocks.

It's this part of the hike that discouraged us from hiking the trail when the kids were younger.  Gibson is wearing a blue t-shirt in the middle of the photo and Helen is wearing a black t-shirt to the left of him.

In the end, Abe was the only one of us to climb to the tippy top.

He took this photo of the view below, 360 degrees unobstructed.

This week was the county fair.  Our friends, Camden and Eddy, raised steers for 4H to auction at the fair.  Helen, Gibson and Becky went to the fair on Thursday morning to watch them show their steers.  This was Eddy's first year to raise a steer and his steer was pretty wild.  It took two grown ups to wrestle the steer out of the show ring.  We wanted a photo of the kids with Eddy's steer named Barbro, but it seemed safest to stand a good distance away from him.

Abe worked several days at the fair cleaning up trash.  The days were long, but he worked with friends which helped the time go faster.

After the fair, we stopped by 7-11 for free slurpees.  The only time we ever get slurpees is when they are free on July 11 (7-11 day).
