This is a screen shot from our video call last Sunday. Abe was in the Relief Society room of a church in Busan, South Korea. Sofi was in her apartment in Bountiful, Utah, Brandan was in an Air BnB on the Isle of Lewis in Scotland and Becky was at home. It's a little miracle that we were all able to see and talk to each other at the same time.
Abe has been transferred to the mission office where he and his companion will serve as the tech missionaries for his mission. We copied this photo of the office missionaries with President and Sister Killpack from Facebook. The Killpacks returned home this week. President and Sister Powell are serving as interim leaders for the mission until the new mission president and his wife get their visas to South Korea.
Becky had a week of inservice meetings this week to get ready for the new school year. We evacuated the school during our first meeting Monday morning after construction workers cut a gas line. Fire fighters came to shut off the gas and air out the building. Meanwhile, we carried on with our meetings in the softball field across the parking lot.
This is a photo of most of the faculty who work at Crater Renaissance Academy. Top row: Michelle, Joely, Jordyn, Billy, Ana, Lena, Maureen, Anna, Caitlin and Pauline. Down the stairs: Anastasia, Steve, Caroline, Brittnee, Kim and Becky. Front row: Sarai, Bryan, Mac, Jen, Nakayla, Joni, Evoni, Davy and Nikki. Meeting and getting to know these wonderful educators was a highlight of the week.

The school is being updated with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and seismic improvements. The construction is expected to last a year and a half. This is the hallway outside Becky's classroom on Thursday. Construction is proceeding one hallway at a time, with teachers moving into portables while their classrooms are being worked on. The portables arrived late, creating a time crunch for teachers preparing for the first day of school.
Apparently the bathrooms in this hallway are known for being a popular place for students to vape. Last year they were locked most of the time to prevent students from lingering. Someone hung this menacing poster about vaping under a bulletin about the threat of fentanyl overdose outside the bathroom doors. Welcome to high school!
By Friday afternoon, most of the furniture in the hallway had been moved. Becky's classroom is ready for Freshman and New Student day on Tuesday.
Helen got her ears pierced again on Thursday. She's had her ears pierced twice before and let the holes close up, but she was ready to try again.
Brandan and Gibson came home Friday afternoon! They had great adventures together and are happy to be home again. We're happy to have them back!
Gibson fell asleep early Friday night and woke up early Saturday morning. He washed the car, mowed the lawn and made baked churros before Becky finished showering.
Brandan and Gibson will share photos and stories from their trip. In the meantime, we'll share one photo of Scotland's beautiful countryside here.
