Becky sewed 10 more circle skirts for Sofi's play this week.  The fabric was from privacy curtains from a hospital ER which grossed her out a little so she washed the skirts using the "sanitize" cycle on the washer.  The skirts will be worn by backup dancers for the Ed Sullivan Show.

This is a photo of Helen in a cozy spot on a rainy day.

Abe is learning some lute music from the 1600s, but he plays the music on his guitar, not on a lute.  The musical notation is different than modern music.  Abe is the only person in our family who can read this.

We got our passports in the mail this week!

Helen and Gibson helped Brandan build a hat rack on Saturday.  They painted a piece of wood white and then attached hat hooks to it.  The hat rack is now hanging in our well-used mudroom.

Helen and Brandan made a gluten free apple pie for dessert on Sunday.  They used a recipe from America's Test Kitchens gluten free recipe book.  The authors test every variable in recipe and try interesting techniques and ingredients.  One new trick was caramelizing the apples before putting them in the pie crust.  Helen is adding lemon zest to the filling.

Here is the pie ready to go into the oven.  If you've ever tried using gluten free flours, you know this is an extraordinary crust.  Usually the dough is far too sticky to roll out and form into a crust.  And you wouldn't want to eat the crust, because it would taste like a tough piece of cardboard.

Success!  Their pie had a light, flaky crust that browned beautifully.  The warm apple filling had just the right amount of sweetness.  It was the perfect fast Sunday dessert!

Way to recycle something that no one would EVER think to reuse - ER curtains!?

So excited for your trip this summer!

That crust on that pie looks delish...
