21 June 2015

We're halfway through our British adventure and loving every day of it.  Our kids have been fantastic travelers.  Even though we get lost regularly and often eat dinner after their normal bedtime, they've kept their good humor and enthusiasm for new adventures.  It's been a delight to travel with Sarah, Joe and Zina and share new experiences with them.  We'll post lots of photos when we get home, for now here is everyone's favorite activity so far:

Gibson: exploring a rock garden at Lytham St. Anne's along the west coast of England

Helen: the acres and acres of beautiful gardens at Chirk Castle in Wales

Abe: going inside the Preston, England temple to do baptisms and walking around the beautifully landscaped grounds

Sofi: can't choose one-- using the underground and the double decker buses in London and lawn bowling in Lytham

Becky: discovering the rich Mormon heritage in Preston, England.  We attended the oldest continuously operating congregation of the church today.  The first baptism in England occurred in Preston in the River Ribble 178 years ago.

Brandan: talking with people -- on the subway with a woman who is a refugee from Algiers and now writing a PhD thesis on migration of women who have done the same thing; the enthusiastic shopkeeper at our flat in Preston who moved here from Connecticut to care for his ailing mother before she died; talking football (soccer) with the clerk at Stonehenge; learning the rules and strategy of lawn bowling from a group of friendly fellows.
