Becky put the labor into Labor Day by making tamales for dinner. It took several hours over 2 days to make a plateful, but it was worth it. The tamales were a big hit and the kids enjoyed the leftovers for lunch all week.
Gibson and Helen went back to school on Tuesday. Gib is in 3rd grade and Helen is in 5th. They're both in the same classroom at a new magnet school in our district.
Gib likes the lego/tinker table and the library corner in his classroom. Building with legos is one of the choices during ish time (independent student happy time.)
Helen likes sitting on cushions outside during reading or journal time. She also likes doodling on the butcher paper her teacher covered the work spaces with. Doodling is encouraged!
Sofi and Abe went back to school on Wednesday.
Abe's favorite class is Chinese. He and Sofi can now argue in 2 languages at dinnertime.
Sofi got asked out on a date by a freshman her first week of school. He probably didn't realize that the freshmen look like they're 12 years old to the seniors! If this first week of school is a portent, Sofi will have too much homework this year to allow time for dating.
Becky took a camera to school on Friday when she picked the kids up so she could take photos of the cool spaghetti towers they had been building all week. Sadly, the towers were in the trash by then. Here's a photo of their teacher, Miss Jenny, instead. After a week, we are in love. Miss Jenny has put lots of thought and lots of work into every aspect of their classroom and their class experience. Gib and Helen are excited to go to school and Becky is excited to pick them up and hear about their day. One tiny touch Becky loved-- this first week of school Miss Jenny put a vase of fresh flowers at everyone's table.

So happy they love their new school! It sounds like such a neat opportunity. Aaron wants to put doodle paper down during dinner time now.
