12 January 2020

Thanks to jet lag, our kids woke up before 5 am all week.  Abe and Helen have used some of their extra time to make scrambles for breakfast, inspired by the scrambles Grandpa Dan made for us in Spain.

Helen had a birthday party with her friends this week.

They made homemade pizza, played games and watched a movie.

The saran wrap ball game was back by popular demand.

Earlier in the week, Gibson helped Becky make the ball with candy, gum, trinkets, gift cards and lots of plastic wrap.

Here's the finished ball.

To play the game, one person rolls dice while another person tries to unwrap the ball while wearing oven mitts.  The person gets to keep whatever falls out of the ball on their turn.  Their turn ends whenever the person rolling the dice gets doubles  In the photo are Clara, Sarah and Caleb.

It's surprisingly hard to pull the plastic wrap apart.  The game moves quickly as everyone wants a turn to unwrap the ball.  There was lots of prize trading during the game.  From the left are Nick, Gibson, Roberta and Helen.  Sophie and Paige were at the party, too, but not in the photos.

Our friend, Ruth, celebrated the launch of her first novel, Deleted, this week.  Brandan and Becky both read early drafts and it's super exciting to see the published book. Deleted is a science fiction/action/romance novel about the near future when it's possible to hack a person's memory.  It's a great story with fantastic characters that makes you think about whose values should influence technology.
