We feel like we're on the edge of spring! It's still chilly out, but we had plenty of sunshine this week. A bunch of neighborhood kids, ages 6-17, joined together to play soccer last Sunday. Helen is wearing an orange and yellow shirt.
A group of boys in our ward are preparing to leave on missions this summer. They've been attending a temple prep class taught by their parents. Each week a different couple takes a turn to teach. From the left are Abe, Jake, Ashton, Camden, Malakai and Spencer.
We had Craterworks this week. The boys finished cutting the fronts of their speaker boxes out with the laser cutter.
Here's a close up of the logo Gibson designed for his speaker. The laser cutter burned the design into the wood.
Next they glued and nailed the boxes together. They hope to finish this project next week by wiring the speakers together.
Abe stopped by for a few minutes to take advantage of the awesome tools at Craterworks. He is designing and building a mechanical marble run at home and wanted to use the belt sander to smooth out one of his pieces.
Abe had two soccer games this week. Spectators aren't allowed at the games because of Covid, but both games were streamed on the internet. It's not quite the same as watching in person, but at least Abe is easy to keep track of with his blond hair. In this photo he is in the center of the screen. Sadly, Crater lost both games.
This week we went hiking while most of the kids were still in school. Helen doesn't have school on Fridays so she came along with Angel, Andrea and Becky. We were able to hike faster and finished before the rain started. Good choice to go early! This is a photo of Helen on top of Roxy Ann.
Brandan has been working hard with community partners to establish a clinic dedicated to Covid vaccinations. Our region has 2 large medical competitors, Asante and Providence, as well as many small medical providers. Until now, the state of Oregon would send vaccines to Asante and Providence, both of whom have the proper refrigeration capacity, and then the rest of the community had to hope something would trickle down. Combined with the chronic vaccine shortages, the system was nearly unnavigable and getting vaccinated was largely a matter of luck. Asante and Providence combined forces with the Jackson County health department to create one location for vaccinations.
Brandan participated in a press conference on Friday to announce the creation of the vaccine clinic and was quoted in the newspaper on Saturday.
