Happy Mother's Day!! Sofi pointed out today that Becky has been a mother for a longer time than she wasn't a mother. Truly motherhood will be the defining quality of her life. It's a fantastic privilege and blessing to parent these four brilliant, strong and compassionate souls.

Ashton received his mission call this week which means all 6 friends have received assignments. Here is a photo showing where each boy will serve. From the left: Camden- Utah St. George Spanish speaking, Malakai- California Los Angeles Mandarin speaking, Jake- Ghana Kumasi English speaking, Ashton- Korea Seoul South, Spencer- Japan Fukuako and Abe- Korea Busan. All of the boys will leave in July and August this summer. We're so proud of them!

Before the pandemic, Becky would pick up litter when she was out for a walk. Now she mostly walks past it, assuming the litter is covered with coronavirus germs. A novel type of trash has accompanied the novel virus: face masks. She's definitely not picking this up.

For family night we sanded the rough edges on Gib's Eagle project. He and Brandan work on it a little bit each week. After taking a break because of the pandemic, Gib is getting ready to rejoin his troop and finish up his Eagle rank.

Every year Crater High school honors the top 5% of the graduating class with a banquet. With current restrictions for large groups, the school skipped the banquet, but still found a way to celebrate the students by holding the event outdoors in the football stadium. Each student gave a short speech thanking their family, teachers and friends and describing their plans for the future. Abe is on the far right of this photo.

Each student also invited a former teacher as their special guest for the evening. Abe invited John Lohman, his physics and programming teacher and math team coach. Mr. Lohman is a good listener and offered Abe great advice when Abe was trying to choose which college to attend.

It was a beautiful evening and we enjoyed congratulating all of the students besides Abe's friend group. We've known most of the 26 kids receiving honors since grade school. After the ceremony, someone suggested taking photos together and we're glad they did so we can preserve these memories. Here are the boys with their moms: Andrea and Camden, Ashton and Tiffany, Jake and Rebeka, Malakai and Angela, Becky and Abe, Spencer and Kristi.

Next the boys and their dads: Spencer and Spencer, Abe and Brandan, Malakai and Colin, Brant and Jake, Justin and Ashton, Camden and Blake.

Abigail also received honors for being in the top 5%. She will attend George Fox University in the fall with a cross country and track scholarship.

Helen started learning about vectors in math this week and drew this picture of the villain from Despicable Me instead of taking notes.

On Thursday night, our neighbor alerted us that water was running down the sidewalk in front of our house. We went outside and saw a giant bubble in our front lawn under the grass.

Helen took a video of Abe jumping on the bubble while water continued to gush from underneath the sod. We turned the water off at the main line to our house and waited for morning to call a plumber. With water no longer running, it seemed better to put up with the inconvenience of no running water for a night than to pay the plumber a premium for an after hours emergency.

In the morning, the plumber's first thought was that we had a break along our main line. The seeming source of the leak was right along the path of the main water line. However, after digging down to expose the pipes, he quickly diagnosed a much simpler problem. The glue at a joint where our irrigation system connected to the main line had completely failed. At this point, the PVC pipes were only connected by gravity and the water pressure was forcing the pipes apart.

It didn't take long to repair the line with stronger PVC and plenty of glue. We're extra thankful now for the blessing of enormous quantities of fresh running water.
