The longest school year in the history of the world ended this week! It was crazy year with lots of adapting and changes month to month. One consistent event for our family was celebrating success every Friday. The kids filled the front and back of this poster with good things that happened every week.
It's a good reminder that you can always find something to celebrate!
Because their traditional end of middle school activities involve large groups of people mingling, Gibson's school planned a drive in movie night to celebrate the end of 8th grade.
Gibson wasn't very excited about the activity, but Becky decorated our car and made him pose for a photo.
Oops! Running our radio to listen to the audio for the movie ran down our car battery. We had to call Abe to come help jump the battery when the evening was over.
We haven't seen a photo like this in a while! Since Helen is fully vaccinated, we cheerfully and enthusiastically let her go to her friend, Annie's, 16th birthday party. Hopefully we will see a lot more groups like this this summer.
Becky likes to take our kids out to lunch when they get taller than she is. Gibson passed that mark last year in the midst of the tightest shutdown of the pandemic. Then, when restrictions loosened a little, his favorite restaurant closed. On Wednesday we finally celebrated his height now that he is inches taller than Becky, not just a tiny bit taller.
Here's a check in photo of Gibson's chessboard. This week he glued and clamped the blocks to a backer board. We've stopped saying, "One more week until it's done!" Gibson will be working at Craterworks as an apprentice this summer and will have plenty of time to finish the chessboard with care.
Helen finished school on Monday, but Gibson had to go until Thursday. Sofi and Helen picked Gibson up from school and they drove around listening to their new playlist, Non-Romantic Songs for Driving Away from 8th Grade on the Last Day of School.
We joyfully attended the temple Thursday night with Abe. Sofi came from Salt Lake for the occasion.
While we were at the temple and Gibson was at soccer practice, Helen picked up dinner from our favorite Italian restaurant. We enjoyed a delicious al fresco meal on a gorgeous evening.
The kids then played spike ball, a mini version of volleyball until it got too dark to see the ball. It's so good to have Sofi home!
Gibson went rock climbing with friends on Friday.
On Friday we also went to watch our friend, Clara, perform as the stepmother in Into the Woods. It was a fabulous production and excellent return to live theater.
We left Saturday morning for our epic end of covid road trip to Utah and Idaho.
Brandan had a zoom training for his calling in the stake presidency so he set up a bit of an office in the front seat for his 4 hour meeting.
