On Monday our temple got a new angel Moroni. The temple presidency invited people to watch. The process took several hours, beginning with building scaffolding alongside the temple steeple which allowed workers to unbolt Moroni from the steeple. In the photo, the crane is lifting the old Moroni down.
This is a photo of the new Moroni being lifted up into position. You can see the old Moroni lying on the grass behind the ladder at the front of the temple. The Moroni statues are made of fiberglass and covered in gold leaf. Over time, the gold leaf wears off. Even from our viewing spot across the parking lot, we could see places wear the gold leaf had completely worn away on Moroni's trumpet, exposing the white fiberglass underneath.
Becky took this photo Tuesday morning. By then all of the scaffolding had been removed and Moroni was looking gorgeous in the morning sun. The old Moroni was loaded into a truck and returned to a warehouse in Utah. He will be cleaned and refurbished. New gold leaf will be applied and then he will be stored until another temple needs a replacement Moroni.
Ashton left for his mission very early Tuesday morning. He has been reassigned to the South Salt Lake mission until his visa to Korea arrives. His cousins made a tunnel with their arms for him to walk through on his way to the security gate at the airport.
Becky taught seminary this week which is always fun. The lessons for the week came from Doctrine and Covenants 121-123, some of the most powerful sections of the Doctrine and Covenants. The students drew pictures to represent D&C 121:33: "How long can rolling waters remain impure? What power shall stay the heavens? As well might man stretch forth his puny arm to stop the Missouri river in its decreed course, or to turn it up stream, as to hinder the Almighty from pouring down knowledge from heaven upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints." Here are a few of their colorful and creative drawings.
Abe's missionary plaque is now hanging in our church entry.
Gibson played in his last soccer game of the season on Friday. The team wore pink jerseys and socks in honor of breast cancer awareness month. The jerseys looked great! The team should wear them more often and get one for the coach. Another parent shared this photo of the team before the game. Back row: Luis, Xiapilli, Jason, Hunter, Zach, Christian, Talon, Brody, Coach Aaron. Front row: Caleb, Levi, Josh, Valente, Gib, Ivor, Gibson and Tayvon.
On Saturday, Gibson and Helen went to the Crater football game. The game also tried to raise awareness for breast cancer by having fans wear pink. Helen wore Gib's soccer jersey.
Today our ward Young Women celebrated King Benjamin Sunday, a beloved tradition twice a year. The girls bring blankets and quotes from their favorite General Conference talks and visit on the floor and eat while they share their quotes. This is a photo of Kate and Helen.
