14 October 2007

Here's a photo of grace. Our neighbor's husband is on the high council and they meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. Pam babysits our kids those nights so we can go to the temple. She plays games with the kids and puts them to bed and we come home to a wonderfully peaceful home. We are very thankful for her.

Sophie didn't have school on Friday, but Abe did, so Sophie got to go check out his school. Right now his class has fish, hermit crabs, rats, walking sticks, worms and snails. They mix activities up every week and on Friday they were playing in red sand, painting with golf balls and dissecting sunflowers. The photo is of Sophie and Abe playing on the pirate ship outside.

We live near a sadly neglected pioneer cemetery. Besides being disrespectful to the dead, it was an eyesore. It was owned by Masons and they were too elderly to care for it. Some of our friends bought the cemetery for $1 and organized a cleanup. Brandan, Sophie and Abe helped pull out overgrown blackberries and clean off and repair headstones. The photo below shows Sophie and Abe cleaning a headstone with toothbrushes alongside other kids. Our friends are setting up a nonprofit organization and working with the city to establish long term maintenance of the cemetery. It already looks 100% better after one morning of work.

We went hiking to a place along the Rogue River called Natural Bridge. The river dives underground for a few yards and travels through a lava tube before spurting up to the surface again. The photo doesn't do justice to the gorgeous fall day, of course, and you also can't hear the sound of water traveling at 350,000 gallons per minute or smell the dense, moist forest air. You'll just have to come hiking with us.

Gibson only gets cuter as he grows.

You know Becky I have a lot of ancestors who lived and died in that area. You just might have been cleaning up the graves of my family.
