9 February 2025

We had an unusual week-long snowstorm this week. It's been over 8 years since we've seen this much snow in the valley.

We woke up to snow falling on Monday morning. Honestly, we were surprised school was not canceled. This is Becky's view as she walked to work

By 11 am, with snow continuing to accumulate, the district decided to close school early. The elementary schools closed at 11:30 am and the high school closed at lunch. This is the view out Becky's window after she got the notice that school was closing early.

Becky wasn't worried about driving home on slick roads so she worked at school until 4 pm, then walked home. She walked past snowmen and families playing in the snow, a rare treat for our town. This is the same view as the morning photo, now with several inches of snow.

Brandan was shoveling our sidewalks when she got home. His clinic also closed early.

Tuesday and Wednesday were snow days and school was canceled all day. This photo was taken Wednesday morning, icy and beautiful. School opened 2 hours late on Thursday and Friday, allowing some of ice to melt before buses and cars drove to school.

The snow lingered all week. This is a photo Becky took walking home from school on Friday. It's unusual for snow to last one day, so having snow for a week has been a treat.

The extra time at home meant time to catch up on some housework and school work and also time for more relaxing pastimes. Becky read a book, finished a K-drama she was watching, baked bread and cookies, and worked on the binding of the Christmas quilt she started last summer.

Abe had a snow day on Friday. Ashton's dad, Justin, took several friends skiing at Brighton in Utah. Abe is in the brown coat.

Here they are riding the ski lift.

This is a photo of Ben and Abe. Abe hasn't been skiing since high school, but he remembered how to ski fairly quickly and had a great day.

Brandan and Becky stayed at a lower elevation for a hike on Saturday and still got to trek through some snow.

The Beekman Canyon Trail is a lovely loop in Jacksonville.

Gibson and Adia helped at the stake Primary activity as hallway helpers. The stake theme focused on the restoration of the gospel which is why Gibson and Adia look like pioneers.

Helen had an adventure of her own, meeting her state senator, Stephanie Pitcher. Helen was with a group of college students who talked to the senator about legislation proposed to protect Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Senator Pitcher is on the left.

A lobbyist gave Helen an enormous bag of popcorn, kind of a random ending to a fun day.
