22 November 2020

Abe is taking chemistry this year and his class is very different on zoom than it would be in person. Despite the challenges of teaching online, his teacher recognizes the importance of lab work to a chemistry class and has tried to include a few labs this term.  This week Abe had an assignment to film himself performing an experiment at home and email the video to her. (Take a moment to consider the teacher who now has to spend hours watching each individual video instead of observing the students together in one class period.)  Abe went the extra mile and dressed up in a lab coat and goggles for his video.

Gib and Eddy finished their Bigfoot cutout this week at Craterworks.  They sanded him smooth after peeling off their paper pattern.

Then they got the idea to make him free standing so Eddy can move Bigfoot around his yard instead of staking him in one place.

Here are the boys with their finished projects.  Jason's sandboard is propped against Gibson and Eddy's Bigfoot, whom they named Lord Hassenfeiffermeister III.  They call him Bill for short.

Traditionally, the Young Men and Young Women in our ward have a scavenger hunt activity for food every November to donate to needy families for Thanksgiving.  It's usually lots of kids in minivans, driving from house to house.  This year, they found a way to safely collect the food with the youth only driving with family members and using lots of hand sanitizer after each pick up.  They dropped the food off at the Young Women's president's house afterwards, maintaining social distance.  Once again, our ward was wonderfully generous and the bins set out for the food quickly overflowed with donations.

Our community hosts a gingerbread decorating contest every year to benefit local arts and the annual gingerbread display is a fun way to kick off the holiday season.  Since crowds of people gathering inside is currently unwise, the event organizers set up the gingerbread houses in storefront windows instead of inside one building like usual.  Brandan and Becky went to look at the display Friday night, marveling at the creativity and skill of the artists.
