5 December 2021

This is a photo of our maple tree with the lights turned on.

Earlier this fall, Helen had an assignment in one of her classes to design a yearbook cover. All of the students voted on the design they wanted and Helen's won! She drew her design on Procreate and Photoshop. The drawing on the left side is of a very large concrete sculpture located on the high school campus. The three logos on the right side are for each of the three small schools at Crater.

Gibson created a board game about photosynthesis for his Biology class and took full advantage of all the resources at Craterworks. He designed the game board on Adobe software and printed it on a large format printer. He used a laser cutter to cut out the backing board for his game board and printed the game pieces on a 3-D printer.

This is a close up of the game pieces. Each piece has a different leaf, representing where photosynthesis occurs.

This is another class project. Becky had an assignment to create a piece of artwork that represented what she had learned in her Diversity and Differences class. She sculpted ears connected to a heart instead of a brain, showing the importance of listening to other people with empathy, patience and grace.

Becky is teaching Gibson's seminary class for a couple of weeks. It's very helpful having Gibson in the class. For example, on Friday he helped draw the plan of salvation on the board before class started.

On Saturday Helen performed with the Siskiyou Violins at an ice skating performance. They played for the pre show and during the intermission. Siskiyou Violins requires performers to be vaccinated which means they are a much smaller group due to covid. The ice skating rink had surprisingly good acoustics and the Christmas songs sounded great.

Another photo of Helen.

After attending the pre show, we went to our stake Light the World with Love event. The event was held outside to decrease the risk from covid. There was even a drive through option for those who didn't want to mingle. The stake center was transformed with lights.

Here's a view of one side of the event. The first tent is a station to collect pajamas, socks and underwear donations for foster children. The second tent was hot chocolate and cookies. The third tent was a stage for musical performances.

Gibson played Christmas hymns in a string trio with Mary and Mollie.

The music brought a beautiful feeling to the evening. Gibson's group played for about half an hour and were followed by other performers.

Around the corner from the music tent was a photo backdrop.

Helen joined us at the stake center after she finished her performance. In the photo are Shaun, Mary, Helen and Gibson.

There was also a live nativity-- no animals-- just teenagers. The actors rotated about every 20 minutes so they didn't get too cold. This is a photo of Gib, Ed, Daniel, Helen, Shaun and Mary before Ed and Daniel began their nativity shift.

We're super thankful for the wonderful committee who planned this beautiful evening. It was a great expression of love and the true Christmas spirit.
